Introduction: The Green Pedestrian

My name is Kat; I think of myself as a “professional pedestrian” because I either ride the bus or walk to get around town because I do not drive.  This blog will include issues related to mass transit, accessibility for non-drivers and tips on expanding environmental values and awareness.

I was born with a green mindset and due to a physical limitation have never driven a car (I do know how though). Having spent most of my life in California, I was grateful for: recent improved transit options for both transit dependent and choice riders (Sacramento specifically), sidewalks and a respectable level of attention to accessibility issues.  In 1998, I moved to Indiana to pursue a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs at IUB SPEA; after graduating I moved to Indianapolis.

So here is my first foray into blogging; if you are inspired by the information I provide, please support efforts at enhancing mass transit options in Indianapolis.

Renewing the push for referendum-enabling legislation

Transit advocates are gearing up for the 2013 session of the Indiana General Assembly, where we hope to see legislation enacted that would allow counties to conduct referenda on dedicated local funding for transit. We have collected over 100 resolutions of support for referendum-enabling legislation. Help us reach 1,000! Resolutions have been passed by a wide range of groups, including churches, neighborhood associations, private companies, elected bodies, social service organizations, and more. For a full list, background information and a template resolution for your organization to adapt, visithttp://www.cirta.us/pages/resolutions/default.aspx.
