The Birth of Kheprw Institute

A Letter from the President:

Dear Sponsor:

The formal birth of the Kheprw Institute began the summer of 2002. That year my son failed his algebra class and neglected to share that information with me and his mother until it was too late to enroll in summer school. Because of his communication failure, he was required to come to work with me everyday, do algebra and work. A few days later one of his closest friends asked if he could work for me during the summer. I said sure but he would also have to read and participate in our study sessions. A few days after that another close friend asked if he could also work. Again the answer was yes. A week later Paulette’s Fair’s grandson made his annual visit to the city of Indianapolis and he also participated. At the end of the summer, the young men asked if the program could be extended into the fall; and thus the Kheprw Institute was born.

Since that time the program has evolved to include additional young men, a life skills coach, a program coordinator, a board and is a 501c3 non profit organization. Our program emphasis is on self-mastery. Five days a week we gather to discuss personal matters, school work, read, watch documentaries, eat, take field trips, talk stuff, mentor, debate, have key note speakers, give presentations, criticize each other, praise each other, and most important show brotherly love for each other. Again the emphasis is on self mastery and becoming critical thinkers. Our goal in the program is to create an atmosphere where the quest for knowledge for knowledge sake is appreciated and expected.

These young men are also involved in our social enterprises. The social enterprises provide work readiness skills, entrepreneurial development, and self empowerment.

Sincerely,

Imhotep Adisa
